WILD ANIMAL
Inspired by the eccentric, whimsical and witty world of Wes Anderson - ‘Wild Animal’ is my mini fashion collection that seeks to pay homage to the director who inspired an entire sub-genre of American cinema. Focusing on Andersons sixth feature film ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’, the collection entails to capture the quintessential Anderson colour palette-an array of dialled down pastels tones, his painstaking attention to detail, nostalgic and vintage props and perfect symmetry - all of which make his movies a satisfying and pleasing experience for the eye.
This Autumn/Winter collection consists of two men’s garments and one women’s piece. The collection includes a tan corduroy coat with a patterned lining, a crisp white shirt with matching detail on the cuffs and a women’s long sleeve dress featuring a pastel pink collar and cuffs. When designing and making this collection I really wanted to explore the characters of Mr and Mrs Fox and emulate their personalities through the designs. Mr Fox is the embodiment of the genius eccentric businessman, whilst Mrs Fox is maternal and sensible by nature. Anderson’s film grapples with the theme of wild vs domesticity and I tried to capture this tension by creating tradition styles of garments, with the added flare of an unusual fabric, pattern or adornment. It is in my hopes that the individuals who wear my designs learn to embrace and appreciate the natural wild impulses of our human personalities that so often are suppressed by the culturally constructed neutrality of this day and age's social climate.
Mr Fox said it best himself- “We’re all wild animals”.
